acrylic and oil paint with tea, sand, espresso, and glitter on mixed fabric stretched over a hand built 22" x 72" parallelogram frame
I wanted to experiment with using multiple types of fabric in one piece to see how the paint would react and swirl around the different fibers. After sewing pieces of canvas, cotton, and two types of terrycloth together, I stretched them over a hand built frame and triple primed it.
As I dripped the paint down and let it flow the imagery presented itself. From the soft, smooth swirls on canvas traveling up to the rough, jagged loops of thread, I saw the transformative process of a caterpillar blossoming into a butterfly. With a couple more splashes of paint and a dusting of glitter and espresso I locked down the basics. The rest found its place when it dried.
